How to Easily Connect a Custom Domain to your Framer Website.
After customising and building your Framer website, it's time to launch it live. Before you hit "publish," you’ll need to replace the demo URL that Framer provides with your own custom domain.
Framer includes built-in staging, so you won’t need a third-party hosting provider. Let’s walk through the process of connecting your custom domain to your Framer website.
1. Go to Settings > Domain
At the top right of the interface, click on the cogwheel icon to access Framer’s Site Settings. Once inside, click the "Domains" tab located on the left-hand side. This is where you can manage your domains.
Before connecting your domain, you need to publish your website by clicking the blue “Publish” button at the top right of the platform. Once published, Framer will provide a demo URL for your site.
2. Choose Domain
Framer offers two options for domain selection:
Choose a name with one of Framer’s default domain extensions.
Connect your own custom domain.
Using Framer's subdomain is free and doesn’t require a site plan. However, connecting your own custom domain will require a paid site plan.
3. Upgrade your Plan
Connecting a custom domain purchased from a registrar (such as GoDaddy or NameCheap) is a premium feature. You’ll be prompted to upgrade your plan before proceeding.
Framer offers three different plans, each with varying features. Choose the one that best fits your needs. Be aware that pricing may vary depending on your location.
4. Enter your Custom Domain
Once you've upgraded, enter your custom domain name. If you don’t own a domain, you can purchase one from a domain registrar. Some popular registrars include:
GoDaddy
NameCheap
Google Domains
5. Add DNS Records to your Domain Dettings
To finalise the connection, you’ll need to enter the required DNS records into your domain registrar’s settings. This process may sound complex, but it’s straightforward (see the images below for an example using GoDaddy).
After entering the DNS records, click "publish" again, and your website will be live on your custom domain. DNS changes can be instant or take up to 48 hours, so don’t worry if your site doesn’t appear immediately.
